The divide between pop and classical isn't quite as large as some would have you believe.
We're not talking about groups like G4 here, though. Artists like Julia Holter are comfortable in both spheres, adding an avant garde sensibility to her rich, penetrating songwriting. Recently teaming up with Domino, new album 'Exstasis' presents an artist whose singular vision is both extremely brave and deeply inspiring.
By way of an introduction, Domino have pulled a single from the new album. 'Goddess Eyes' will be released December 10th, with the track set to be availably both digitally and on heavyweight 12 inch vinyl. Alongside the original recording, fans can find new versions of 'Goddess Eyes' and 'Betsy On The Roof' both performed with musicians Christopher Votek and Corey Fogel at Echo Manor studios in Los Angeles.
'Goddess Eyes' has been given visual treatment courtesy of Yelena Zhelezov. The director commented: "The video for Julia Holter's 'Goddess Eyes II' is inspired by the Latin phrase “deus ex machina”. In literature, deus ex machina is a plot device for seemingly unresolvable dramaturgical situations. The unexpected and dramatic measure was employed by many Greek tragedians. It is in tribute to Euripides and the literary spirit of the song that the video was directed."
