Jessie Ware has been nominated for British Breakthrough Act and British Female Solo Artist at the BRIT Awards 2013.
Since releasing her debut album, Devotion, on August 20th last year, full of refined, soulful takes on futuristic R&B, her critical and commercial stature has gone from strength to strength, reaching number 5 in the album charts and gaining a Mercury Prize nomination.
She said: “I found out I was nominated and I was actually doing a gig in a foreign country and I wasn’t going to take the phone call from my manager. I was like, 'Do I really need to take this? Is this going to cost me loads?’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, I think you really want to hear this.’”
Ware described her 2012 and journey to the BRIT Awards 2013 as “special”, having played her first live shows and released “Devotion” to critical acclaim. She also described the BRITs as a “fun knees up” and being nominated as “a huge accolade.”
She said: “To be up for two awards when it’s my first year in the music industry feels a bit too good to be true. It’s a real treat and honour.” Ware performed a stunning acoustic version of her breakthrough hit, “Running”, at the BRIT Awards 2013 Nominations Launch 2013.
