Emerging earlier this year, How To Destroy Angels_ have been dominated by the spectre of Nine Inch Nails.
Sure, Trent Reznor might be a massive creative force, but How To Destroy Angels_ is very much a group project. Lining up with Mariqueen Maandig, Atticus Ross and Rob Sheridan, the group match the exactness of electronic production to something very human.
Debut EP 'The Omen_' – again with the underscore – emerged earlier this year, and surprised those who were expecting NiN Mk. II. Instead, what the band delivered was by turns poetic and savage, with each track having a beguiling simplicity.
Take 'Ice Age'. Stretching out beyond the seven minute mark, it's soft, understated poetics are now matched to a new video courtesy of John Hillcoat. Beautifully shot, the rich visuals give way to the aching nostalgia of found footage.
