Funny how South London has inspired such musical reveries.
Unlike it's Northern neighbour, South London isn't strictly defined – stretching from the Thames into Surrey, it's a heavy, urban mass which threatens to overpower you. In its concrete streets, though, lie some fascinating musicians with Halls – aka Sam Howard – the next in line.
Debut album 'Ark' is out now, matching a sense of classical composition to bass weight and left field electronics. A touching, beautiful, fragile album it turns the complex geography of South London into something crystalline, diamond like.
ClashMusic have been handed a Halls live session, featuring Sam Howard performing 'White Chalk'. It's a delicate, raw performance featuring a young artist only just coming to grips with the terms of his own potential.
Watch it now.
