How do you define a rebel?
After all, everyone likes to think of themselves as a rebel. David Cameron no doubt thinks of himself as a rebel, while the revolutionaries on the left no doubt view themselves in the same vein.
French philosopher Albert Camus saw the process of rebellion as being the action of a conscious individual, saying 'yes' and 'no' to the questions delivered by our lives.
If that is indeed the case, then British rapper Ghetts is most definitely a rebel. Informed as much by spoken word poetry as soundsystem culture, Ghetts looks to his own surroundings as inspiration. "It took a fair bit of me growing up" the rapper explained recently, "a fair bit of living to get here."
Teaming up with Disrupt, the rapper's latest release is his most enticing yet. Displaying two differing sides of his persona, 'Definition of a Rebel' / 'The Cypher' show off Ghetts' impeccable flow, his verbal virtuosity.
Clash is able to bring you 'Definition Of A Rebel' before anyone else, and it's a bit special. Pared down spoken word, it's introspective without being maudlin, extrovert without veering into machismo.
