Clash Premiere: Wolf People – Empty Vessels

Psych heaven...

Now a global phenomenon, psychedelia remains – in many ways – a European artefact.

The product of rock 'n' roll colliding with new technology, the indulgences afforded by the recording studio were used to astounding effect by pioneering cosmonauts such as The Zombies, The Pretty Things, The Beatles and the Pink Floyd.

Yet that lineage still continues. Wolf People have earned cult acclaim with their take on psychedelic whimsy, adding an exploratory prog edge into the bargain. A profoundly English experience, second album 'Fain' looks set to push Wolf People into the wider consciousness.

Out now, the full length will be accompanied by a short British tour before the band fly out to the United States for a series of dates with Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Ahead of this, though, ClashMusic have a little treat for readers.

'Empty Vessels' is a mighty, righteous slab of psych heaven, all groovy rhythms, quicksilver guitar and bewitching lyrics. Sayeth Jack Sharp: "A storm is coming. 'Empty Vessels' was written in fits and starts over a long wet summer under the spell of George Ewart Evans, an oral historian from Suffolk, whose books I was reading on trips to Dunwich, Blaxhall and Aldeburgh. The conditions of those trips were echoed when the song was recorded in Yorkshire, in the squally spring showers on the Dales."
