Emily Barker may well be one of the biggest unknowns British music has to offer.
Growing up in Western Australia but based in the UK, the folk influenced songwriter has already released three critical acclaimed albums. Loose, hazy songwriting with an acoustic touch, Emily Barker's music has taken her to some unexpected places.
Invited to perform at the opening ceremony of the Olympics, the Australian singer appeared alongside Frank Turner in front of a global televised audience. Now she's ready to make her next step.
Signed to Linn Records, Emily Barker has teamed up with the Red Clay Halo to work on her new album. The Blue Nile lynchpin Calum Malcolm has stepped in on production, with the results set to find Emily Barker moving in a new direction.
Lead single 'Dear River' is out today (May 13th), and finds the singer reflecting on her youth in Australia. "Dear River is a song about journey," she said recently, "it is a longing for the unfamiliar, where the journey itself becomes a home. However, the more I travel and experience, the more the river calls me back and I start longing for what I knew: those first landscapes, those first loves".
Ahead of its release, ClashMusic has gained the exclusive first play of the video for 'Dear River'.
