Hollywood star Cate Blanchett takes the central role in Sparks’ witty new video.
The duo – Ron and Russell Mael – have re-signed to Island Records, home to their seminal 70s run of LPs. Incoming album ‘The Girl Is Crying In Her Late’ lands on May 26th, with the group promising fans a record that is “as bold and uncompromising as anything we did back then, or for that matter, anytime throughout our career…”
The title song is online now, a witty piece of profoundly progressive pop music. The simple but incredibly effective video stars Sparks, with Cate Blanchett dancing wildly to the song.
It’s a neat twist, with the group reflecting on their relationship with the actress during a recent Variety interview.
“We met Cate Blanchett in Paris at theCésar Awards last year,” say Ron and Russell Mael, “little knowing that a year later, one of the great actors of our time (and a splendid person!) would graciously consent to lending her bootie-shaking skills to the first video from our new album, ‘The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte’. Dreams really do come true. We will sleep well tonight knowing that forever we can say we co-starred in a film with Cate Blanchett!”
Tune in now.
‘The Girl Is Crying In Her Late’ will be released on May 26th.
