Barn Owl – Void Redux

When DOOM meets dub...

Dub's suggestion of infinite space has two effects.

The first is spiritual, with suggestion of the infinite seeming to spark an awareness of our place in the grander scheme of things. The second is rather darker, with awareness of the infinite crushing the ego, the sense of self amidst the colossal space of the universe.

It's something Barn Owl like to play with. The Thrill Jockey pair recently returned with 'V', an album which seemed to combine the crushing intensity of DOOM with the expansive nature of dub.

Jon Porras and Evan Caminiti utilise plenty of electronic trickery, but there are also hints of analogue. Barn Owl aren't afraid of using good old fashioned guitar lines – providing, of course, that said guitar lines sound as if the end of the world is fast approaching.

Stripped fron their recent album, the duo have unveiled the video for 'Void Redux'. Unfurling as aslowly and effortlessly as the track itself, the visuals seem to point towards the relationship between humanity and the often quite brutal beauty of the concrete world in which we inhabit.

Watch it now.
