There's a great British art-pop tradition which Ballet School slot neatly into.
Not a sound, as such – more of an approach. The band cut apart their influences (80s R&B, shoegaze and the odd piece of electronica) and paste them together in a new way, one influenced by subject matter not normally found in pop music.
There's that name for a start. Inspired by the sense of grace found within famous ballerinas, Berlin trio Ballet School recently unveiled their sun-speckled summer jam 'Heartbeat Overdrive'.
The video for the track was shot in London by Cathal O'Brien, underground artist and filmmaker, and best friend of vocalist Rosie Blair. The pair met while studying at Central St. Martin's and their ease in each other's company is reflected in the clip – gleefully experimental, it matches the cut 'n' paste aesthetic of the track itself.
Watch it now.
