Angel Haze – Gossip Folks

Respect to a Classick

Angel Haze hasn't tried to hide the story of her difficult childhood. Normally we hear US rappers chatting about the hood or the projects, keen to push their 'street' credentials out into the public eye. Angel Haze doesn't profess to have grown up around drugs, dice games and drive-bys; her childhood revolved around constantly moving and yet having no freedom as her family were part of a restrictive cult-like church.

With a youth that probably contained more hymns than hip-hop Angel would have had some serious catching up to do when she broke from the church's clutches, but she seems to have been dilligent in her studies as the tracks featured on her mixtape 'Classick' show. Featuring tunes from Jay Z, Eminem, Lauryn Hill, Erykah Baduh and Lupe Fiasco, it's her track 'Gossip Folks', taking the beat from the Missy Elliott cut with the same name, that has been lifted from the mixtape and given the video treatment.
