Yeah Yeah Yeahs For Monolith

Colorado event gears up

Colorado musical extravaganza Monolith has expanded its bill with Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Mars Volta and more due to join the fun.

While it may not have entirely escaped the tyranny of ‘jam bands’, the North American festival circuit has been hotting up in recent times. More and more events have been founded with a slightly more experimental slant, and these festivals seem to be gainer ever more prominence.

Set in Colorado, Monolith festival boasts a stunning location. Now into its third year organisers have tried to bring fans closer to the action, even going as far as confirming acts over their Twitter page.

This year the event has bagged some of its finest headliners to date. Brooklyn trio Yeah Yeah Yeahs are a sensational live act, with singer Karen O providing a visual feast for the audience. At a recent show at T In The Park the frontwoman emerged onstage wearing an enormous costume made of feathers, which resembled an enormous Native American head-dress.

Of course, its the music that matters with recent album ‘It’s Blitz’ providing a storming comeback from the band. Yeah Yeah Yeahs ditched the guitars in favour of synths, but still had enough rockers up their sleeves to keep the faithful happy.

Joining the band on the bill at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison are some big names. Formed from the ashes of At The Drive In, The Mars Volta have been working on a new album of late.

However the band are set to tear themselves away from the studio for a typically lenghty performance. French electro rockers Phoenix recently released their new studio album, with the group due to bring some gallic charm to Colorado.

Also due to play at the festival are newcomers such as The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, with Scottish group Frightened Rabbit making the journey to the United States. Rapper DOOM is set to bring the noise, before acoustic balladeer M. Ward gives a typically emotional performance.

With tickets being kept at fan friendly prices, Monolith festival is a sign of how the American summer circuit is rapidly changing.

Monolith festival takes place between September 12th – 13th.
