Wild Flag are set to play a full British tour early next year, following their acclaimed debut album.
Emerging earlier this year, Wild Flag have caused no end of excitement in the ClashMusic office. Led by Carrie Brownstein, the four piece have a pedigree that includes some truly seminal American groups.
If we were to be trite, Wild Flag could be called a Riot Grrrl supergroup but in reality the band are simply a bunch of friends making music. Carrie Brownstein and Janet Weiss worked in Sleater-Kinney, who toured with Mary Timony’s band Helium.
Rebecca Cole and Janet Weiss formed a short-lived garage group together, with all four musicians on close terms. Completing their debut album earlier this year, Wild Flag make fun, loud punk rock with plenty of attitude.
“I think we all realised that we could be greater than the sum of our parts, not four disparate puzzle pieces trying to make sense of the other, but a cohesive and dynamic whole” Brownstein explained recently. “It’s still about chemistry, it’s still about learning how to play together. You really should try to earn the things you get, and to feel like you have to prove something.”
Arranging a one off London show this December, Wild Flag are now looking ahead to a full British tour in 2012.
Opening in Bristol on January 27th, the tour continues with shows in Nottingham, Leeds, Glasgow and more. Ending in London on February 1st, Wild Flag will close the tour with a show at the Electric Ballroom.
