Wilco are amongst the latest batch of groups to be confirmed for next summer’s Primavera Sound.
The winter nights are drawing in, with the Clash (Scotland) office now sitting in almost perpetual gloom. Thoughts are already turning to summer, especially when Primavera Sound begin to sketch out their latest line up.
Returning in 2012, Primavera Sound have announced the latest names on the bill. Wilco are set to play the Spanish festival, having recently completed an acclaimed tour of the UK.
New album ‘The Whole Love’ was a masterful return, enhancing Jeff Tweedy’s reputation as one of the foremost songwriters of his generation. However Wilco are very much a group, a fact underlined by their often sublime live appearances.
Set to perform at Primavera Sound next summer, Wilco will be joined by a rapidly expanding line up. Hailing from Florida (well, initially) The Drums have a sunshine sensibility which is enough to rouse the Clash team from their winter slump.
Album #2 dropped earlier this year, with the American band now focussed on live duties. Primavera Sound have bagged a performance from The Drums, who sit on the line up alongside rising British group Veronica Falls.
Elsehwere, SBTRKT is due to perform while the line up also includes appearances from Godflesh, Josh T Pearson, Death In Vegas and more.
Next summer will see Primavera Sound expand, with Optimus Primavera taking place in Porto. The twin line ups will be largely the same, although Steve Albini’s Shellac crew will be performing only in Portugal.
Initial tickets for both events are on sale now, with early bird prices for Primavera Sound due to run out tomorrow (November 30th). Optimus Primavera, meanwhile, retains its initial thriftiness until December 31st
Primavera Sound runs between May 30th – June 3rd.
Optimus Primavera Sound runs between June 7th – 10th.
