A stunning new event set in one of Africa’s most impoverished countries, V Inspired Lake Of Stars has confirmed details of its line up.
While the continent has struggled with hunger, disease and war Africa has still managed to cling to its love of music. Icons such as Fela Kuti are familiar in the West but beneath this are countless musicians breaking rules and entertaining massive crowds.
When travelling through Malawi almost a decade ago Will Jameson fell in love with the country, and decided to launch a new music festival. Now entering its seventh year, V Inspired Lake Of Stars has always managed to combine stunning landscape with a spectacular bill.
Dance giants Groove Armada agreed to play the first instalment of the festival. “We got Andy Cato involved after a bit of a late Chibuku session!” Jameson told Clash Magazine.
“But he had a three-day nightmare journey to the festival as two flights got delayed. We were worried he’d give up and go home. Just seeing him getting out of the plane was a great moment.”
This year could well be one of the finest line ups V Inspired Lake Of Stars has so far secured. Brighton indie mavericks The Maccabees are due to perform, fresh from the critical success of their recent second album.
Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard is preparing to release his new solo album through his Greco-Roman imprint and the electro guru is due to travel to Malawi for a very special set. However perhaps the most appropriate booking is The Very Best.
Comprising of production team Radioclit and an African singer The Very Best represent the most vital aspects of African and Western music, united in order to work the dancefloor. A bit like V Inspired Lake Of Stars itself, then.
V Inspired Lake of Stars takes place at the Sunbird Nkopola Lodge, Mangochi in Malawi from October 15th – 18th.
