U2 To Headline Glastonbury 2010

Michael Eavis confirms the news

Irish rock giants U2 are to headline next summer’s anniversary instalment of Glastonbury.

U2 are one of the biggest bands on the planet. With a back catalogue extending over thirty years the group’s hard work ethic has seen them launch massive tours to showcase their vast, widescreen sound.

Latest album ‘No Line On The Horizon’ was followed by a lengthy tour. Titled ‘360 Degrees’ the tour has already played to countless thousands across the globe.

U2 are now set to extend their schedule by one more performance. The Irish group have been confirmed as the headliners for next year’s Glastonbury event, with festival organiser Michael Eavis confirming the news.

“The 26-year-old rumour has finally come true. At last, the biggest band in the world are going to play the best festival in the world.”

“Nothing could be better for our 40th anniversary party. And there are even more surprises in the pipeline…”

As part of the ‘360 Degrees’ world tour U2 have been performing in the middle of a giant claw. However for one night only the band will swap this for the Somerset event’s famed Pyramid Stage.

U2 promoter John Giddings said on Twitter: “It is true, U2 headline the Fri night @ Glastonbury. They fly back for the weekend in the middle of their US tour.”

U2 have never played Glastonbury before. Band member Adam Clayton performed at the event in 1989, playing just one song with Hothouse Flowers.

All tickets for Glastonbury 2010 have been sold out.
