Fan speculation has seen Coldplay, Kylie Minogue and Dizzee Rascal enter the frame for a Glastonbury headline slot.
In Glastonbury’s 40th year, organisers desperately wanted everything to run smoothly. However an emergency operation on Bono’s back has seen U2 pull out of the event with just a few weeks to go.
Sadly, the Irish rock giants are unable to perform. Confirming the news to fans the singer explained that he was “heartbroken” at the news, with sixteen North American dates also falling by the way side.
As a result, Glastonbury are down by one headline. Stevie Wonder and Muse are able to perform, with the Worthy Farm event set to name a successor to U2 shortly.
Fans speculation has seen a number of acts linked with the slot. Dizzee Rascal has been suggested as a possible replacement, having dominated the festival circuit last summer thanks to a series of hit singles.
Kylie Minogue has also been cited as a possible headliner, having previously been forced to cancel from the festival herself. Due to play Glastonbury in 2005, news that she was suffering from breast cancer caused the singer to pull out.
American celebrity gossip merchant Perez Hilton claims to have inside knowledge that Coldplay will be unveiled as the guest headliners. The British stadium giants have not played the festival since 2006, and could well be the perfect choice to please the huge Somerset crowds.
Back in 1995, The Stone Roses pulled out of Glastonbury allowing Pulp to perform. Launching their time in the mainstream, the show saw them introduce the classic single ‘Common People’.
Glastonbury takes place between June 23rd – 27th.
