Triptych Climax

Popular Scottish fest finishes

It’s a sort of booze-fuelled equivalent of the great circle of life: as new festivals are born, so their more established contemporaries bow out. April 25th – 27th sees the swansong of Triptych, the three-city Scottish shindig which has pumped an intoxicating supply of creative energy into an otherwise gloomy April for the last eight years.

Taking in various venues across Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh, the ’08 event brings both returning heroes and new faces back for one final hurrah. TripTych alumni Candi Staton and Four Tet return, Scottish debuts are handed out to Wu Tang Clan supremo RZA and Juan Atkins’ Model 500, while Mogwai and Malcolm Middleton bring a bit of homegrown to the party.

Launched by Tennents Lager in 2000, Triptych has forged a groundbreaking new path for live music events. Diverse talents like Karlheinz Stockhausen, ESG and Grace Jones have touched down and gone toe to toe with more prosaic local types, and this final fling looks set to be another glorious mish-mash. From Jamie Lidell to Jah Shaka, Sebadoh to Derrick May, the cities’ hotels will be teeming with talent.

So what will the sponsors do next? Well, they’re set to announce a bold new initiative, The Tennents Mutual, at a pre-Triptych launch do on April 2nd. Keep ‘em peeled.
