Radiohead singer Thom Yorke has debuted new solo material with a very special show in Los Angeles (October 2nd).
Thom Yorke tends to do things in style. Wanting to play a solo show over the festival season, the Radiohead singer took to the stage at Latitude and played a spectacular set combining well known tracks with rarities.
Performing alone at the piano, the singer seemed totally at ease. Shortly afterwards Thom Yorke announced that he was preparing to release a new solo 12 inch.
Pulling together a band for solo shows, Thom Yorke announced that he was working with R.E.M. collaborator Joey Waronker, Brazilian multi-instrumentalist Mauro Refosco, and producer Nigel Godrich.
The twist? Red Hot Chili Peppers star Flea is in charge of bass duties. A strange time to be alive, we’re sure you’ll agree.
Opening his new solo dates with a very special ‘rehearsal’ show in Los Angeles, Thom Yorke seemed on jubilant form in the Echoplex. Tickets for the show sold out in a very short time, with briefs selling online for as much as $3000.
Joking with the audience, Thom Yorke opened proceedings with the title track from his debut solo album ‘The Eraser’. Amongst those assembled in the venue were Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon, actress Rosanna Arquette, producer Rick Rubin, as well as members of Neon Neon and Cold War Kids.
Running through ‘The Eraser’ in its entirety the band then left the stage. Returning shortly after Thom Yorke performed ‘Open The Floodgates’ as well as ‘Lotus Flower’ all on his own.
Asking the audience to quiet down the Radiohead star then launched into a propulsive version of ‘Feeling Pulled Apart By Horses’.
Thom Yorke played:
‘The Eraser’
‘Analyse’
‘The Clock’
‘Black Swan’
‘Skip Divided’
‘Atoms For Peace’
