Radiohead singer Thom Yorke has stunned fans by announcing a special solo slot at this summer’s Latitude festival.
Set in the rolling countryside of Suffolk, Latitude is rapidly establishing itself as one of the summer’s main attractions. With a warm and friendly atmosphere, the festival prides itself on bills that contain a mixture of massive artists and hot new groups.
Thom Yorke is set to drop by the Suffolk bash for a very special set on Sunday July 19th – the final day of the event. The Radiohead icon released the solo album ‘The Eraser’ in 2006, earning wide ranging acclaim and a Mercury nomination in the process.
The singer is not set to release another solo album any time soon, but Yorke is due to step outside of the confines of Radiohead for a rare solo jaunt. The songwriter rarely performs solo, only completing a handful of shows in promoting ‘The Eraser’.
Yorke has, however, performed the song ‘Cymbal Rush’ solo as an encore when touring with Radiohead. The band have been busy of late, touring Central and South America for the first time in a decade.
Hitting the road with Kraftwerk, the performances were greeted with fervour by their performance starved fans. Radiohead are set to follow this with a series of European festival, before hitting the UK.
Radiohead are due to headline this summer’s Reading and Leeds festivals, with that announcement almost immediately adding a couple of zeros to the price of a weekend ticket on the black market.
The band are well known for producing the goods at festivals, with Radiohead’s performance at Glastonbury in 1997 going down in the annals of music history. This summer’s show may not reach the same levels of emotional intensity, but with a stunning back catalogue to choose from surely Radiohead fans can’t lose.
The group delighted their followers recently by revealing that they have begun work on new material. 2007’s industry busting album ‘In Rainbows’ has been celebrated as one of Radiohead’s finest to date, with the band hitting number one on both sides of the Atlantic.
Thom Yorke is set to play Latitude on July 19th. Also due to headline are the likes of Pet Shop Boys, Grace Jones and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.
Latitude is due to take place between July 16th – 19th.
