Rob da Bank has revealed that The xx and Sigur Ros are to perform at this year’s Bestival.
What a way to start the morning! Bestival is one of ClashMusic’s favourite summer events, with the entire team regularly decamping to the Isle of Wight clad in whatever bizarre costume we can throw together.
This year promises to be no different. Hitting the social networks this morning (February 8th) organiser Rob da Bank confirmed that Mercury winners The xx and seminal Icelandic types Sigur Ros are set to play Bestival.
For The xx, the slot marks a break from the studio. Currently working on their second studio album, the London trio are giving nothing away. Set to play a number of events on the continent, the band will play only one British event this summer – and it’s on the Isle of Wight.
Sigur Ros, meanwhile, have not played a British show since 2007. Taking time off to deal with family affairs, singer Jonsi was left free to release material under the Riceboy Sleeps moniker and his own name.
The band’s last British show at the Alexandra Palace was shot by a professional film crew, and released last year as ‘Inni’. An engrossing, powerful film the performance will whet appetites for Sigur Ros’ Bestival slot – their sole British festival appearance of the summer.
Elsewhere, French electro giants Justice are due to appear with Rob da Bank revealing the line up act by act on his Twitter feed.
