The xx For iTunes Festival

Ellie Goulding also set for free event

London’s hushed garage combo The xx have been added to the bill for this year’s iTunes festival.

Formed at high school, The xx began life practising late at night in one another’s houses. Turning their amps down low to avoid disturbing their families, the band’s hushed sound was born.

With their debut album becoming a remarkable word of mouth success, The xx’s blend of post-garage beats and spider-like guitar lines has become deeply affecting. Losing a member over the past year, the group have nonetheless been able to tour across the United States winning acclaim in the process.

Returning to the UK, The xx have released a number of remixes. Taking time off to work on new material, the London group are set to break cover for a special show at this summer’s iTunes festival.

Free to competition winners, the shows take place at London’s Roundhouse venue between July 1st – 31st. Opening with Scissor Sisters, The xx are due to perform at the venue on July 12th.

Joining the bill is BRIT award winner Ellie Goulding. Perhaps too saccharine for some, the singer has nonetheless scored a hit with her single ‘Starry Eyes’ while her debut album entered the Top Ten.

Ellie Goulding is set to perform at The Roundhouse on July 8th. Other acts confirmed for the festival include legendary crooner Tony Bennett and metal icon Ozzy Osbourne. Now there’s a duet we’d love to see.
