The xx Announce New Headline Date

London show biggest to date

Hushed newcomers The xx have announced details of their biggest headline show to date.

London is an extremely musical city. Take The xx for example – forming as teenagers their school boasts alumni such as Four Tet, Hot Chip and Burial.

Not a bad track record by any means, but The xx could yet surpass them all. With their delicate melodies, hushed vocals and intricate guitars the band have begun to make a big noise without resorting to volume.

Practising in their singer’s house late at night, The xx were forced to turn down the volume to allow their family some sleep. From this emerged a distinctive sound that recalls Young Marble Giants and slow-core pioneers Galaxie 500 without ever becoming derivative.

Early singles such as ‘Crystallised’ marked The xx out as ones to watch. Blending dark, hushed vocals with a distinct pop feel, the band even used processed beats giving an added R&B edge.

Live, they have been known to cover Womack & Womack and Aaliyah – something previously unthinkable from a hot indie newcomer.

The band’s self-titled debut album was released earlier this year to overwhelmingly positive reviews. Critics praised their inventive songwriting and sharp emotional edge, while The xx seemed to never lose sight of the dancefloor.

Now The xx can celebrate after confirming details of their biggest headline show to date. Taking place in London’s Village Underground venue more than 700 fans are set to pack into one of the hottest gigs of the year.

The xx have confirmed the following date:

October
28 London Village Underground
