The Stone Roses are set to headline T In The Park, Benicassim and Fuji Rock.
Announcing their reformation at an emotional press conference, The Stone Roses seemed to spark as many rumours as they settled. Fans immediately linked the four piece with festival appearances, causing enormous web based speculation.
Now the Manchester legends have confirmed that they are to hit the festival circuit. A posting on the band’s Facebook page confirmed the news: “The Stone Roses are confirmed as headliners for 2012’s Benicassim Festival, Fuji Rock Festival and T In The Park Festival”.
The triple announcement has taken fans by surprise. The Stone Roses will return to Scottish soil for the first time in fifteen years to make their first ever appearance at T In The Park. The band hinted at a return to Scotland during the press conference, with Mani naming a 1990 show at Glasgow Green as one of the finest of their career.
Set to headline the enormous Scottish event, The Stone Roses will also make star appearances at Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival and Spain’s Benicassim. Commenting on the announcement, FIB organiser Vince Power said:
“We’re really happy to announce The Stone Roses to headline FIB, this is really exciting on all fronts, I’ve had a long history with The Stone Roses since they formed and I’m really looking forward to having them back at FIB to watch, no doubt, an incredible performance.”
Vince Power was of course the organiser at Reading when The Stone Roses mounted a disastrous read guard action in 1996. Ultimately ending the band’s career, the Benicassim slot comes as a form of poetic justice.
Sadly, The Stone Roses won’t be able to perform at Glastonbury this summer. The festival is taking a year off, in part to let the Worthy Farm ground recover and also to avoid clashing with the Olympics.
Will more announcements follow? Keep checking back…
