The Standells Confirm UK Show

Garage legends in first British visit

Legendary garage rockers The Standells are to make their first ever visit to the UK later this year.

It’s a song which has lasted the test of time better than some more illustrious name. A garage rock classic, ‘Sometimes Good Guys Don’t Wear White’ is an ageless slice of teenage paranoia.

Covered by a huge variety of acts including (deep breath) U2, Minor Threat, Red Hot Chili Peppers and many more the track has achieved a lingering status as the ultimate in 60s brat rock.

Written by Los Angeles natives The Standells, the band are now set to travel to the UK to play their first ever British show.

Back in the 60s, the group enjoyed a string of local hits before breaking internationally. Songs such as ‘Dirty Water’ immortalised the band, with their ode to Boston later appearing on the seminal ‘Nuggets’ compilation.

Splitting as the 70s dawned, the band were spread across the United States. Taking up ‘real jobs’ The Standells were tracked down one by one before an emotional re-union at the Cavestomp festival in 1999.

Since then, The Standells have played a few hugely successful shows and are now set to play their first ever British show. Taking place at the 229 in London, the gig is eagerly anticipated by the group themselves.

“When we first started out we loved the sound of The Beatles and The Stones,” remembers keyboardist Larry Tamblyn, “so to be finally getting to play in England where those bands came from is really exciting.”

“We actually recorded ‘Dirty Water’ in a converted garage. Maybe it’s the rebellious in-your-face lyrics of our songs, or the snarly way in which we performed them but I know that a lot of groups like the Ramones and Guns N’Roses have been inspired by us.”

The Standells are to play the following show:

June
19 London 229
