Hope Of The States man debuts new band

Fans of now-defunct post-rockers Hope Of The States will be glad to hear the band’s singer Sam Herlihy is set to return as the frontman of new rock outfit The Northwestern, and will tour the UK later in the month.

Acclaimed for their epic post-rock and often likened to pioneering rock acts such as Radiohead, Hope Of The States looked set to become one of the biggest bands in the country, with debut ‘The Lost Riots’ proving one of 2004’s unexpected highlights.

However, poor sales and band tensions following their second album ‘Left’ led Herlihy announce the group’s split on their website in 2006. Members went on to work on various projects, with violinist Mike Sidell going on to join Lightspeed Champion.

Now The Northwestern are set to debut new material at venues across the UK, with new double A-side single ‘All The Ones/Telephones’ set for release on June 15th after the band signed to Friends Vs Records.

Featuring ex-Open guitarist Jonny Winter, ex-Action Plan guitarist Ian McCullagh and former Hope Of The States sticksman Simon Jones – as well as Herlihy on vocals – their sound is a promising return, bringing to mind Hope Of The States jamming with Broken Social Scene – expect a bold return.
