The Great Escape Festival

With bonus Levis OnesToWatch video clips

Levi’s OnesToWatch continues to beat the eardrum at this year’s Great Escape festival.

After two successful years at The Great Escape Festival in Brighton which saw performances from Bombay Bicycle Club, Black Lips, We Are Scientists and Frankmusik. Levi’s OnesToWatch were back for a third year running, to support the 2010 Great Escape festival with an even bigger and better line-up.

Levi’s OnesToWatch once again took up residency at Brighton’s most reputable live music and club venue Audio, playing host to some of the music industry¹s finest breakthrough acts.

Standout sets over the course of the three days included the super cool French band Kid Bombardos. This quartet provided an up-tempo sound, sometimes combining a British pop style with American rock. Playing top tracks such as Round The Bend and I¹m Gonna Try ensured that most of the crowd left with a huge smile on their faces.

As night time descended, These New Puritans (who were probably one of the event¹s standout acts) honed their brand of art-rock post-punk revivalism into a gripping combination of tribal thunderous drumming, dancehall horns and elasticated bass.

Fenech-Soler managed to send the crowd into a frenzy, with their fantasy dancefloor pop. An energetic performance of their new single Stop and Stare drove the crowd into a dancing mess.

The Futureheads were the secret guests on the Levi’s OnesToWatch outside stage. Performing a magical set in the sunshine to a lucky few; tracks included old favourites such as Hounds of Love as well as tracks from their new album such as Heartbeat song.

Icelandic duo Feldberg, were the surprising highlights at the Levi’s OnesToWatch event. This sparkly pop incarnation featured a range of sounds in their set from electronic to acoustic to folk.

Current bloggers delight and anonymous boy/girl duo Summercamp perform their eagerly anticipated gig. Their music is something that can only be described as dream pop meets the soundtrack to teen kisses and unrequited romances. Having interviewed the duo after the gig, they explained the reasoning behind the reluctance to unveil their identity. “As things started happening it made sense to carry on being secretive, as it takes the pressure off us slightly. Plus, we don’t like how you can know everything about a band these days we’re nostalgic for mystery.”

Overall it seemed that the lovely people at Levi’s OnesToWatch once again managed to put on a cracking show. Securing some of the most talked about new artists on the cusp of hitting it big. We saw a number of electric performances from top new talent and cannot wait to see what they¹ve got in store for us at next year¹s Great Escape festival.
