Sunderland post-punk tykes The Futureheads are to headline this year’s Wickerman festival.
With the festival season becoming big business, it’s easy to forget about the smaller, more boutique events which brighten up the summer. Held in the South of Scotland, Wickerman is one of the nation’s most unique festivals.
Featuring an eclectic array of acts, a range of food and drink stalls and of course an enormous Wickerman – which they light, naturally – this festival brings out the pagan in us all.
This year, Sunderland group The Futureheads have an appointment with the Wickerman. The group have completed their fourth album, which is set to be released this summer via their own Nul Records imprint.
Preceded by a lengthy UK tour, The Futureheads are bound to be on sharp live form at Wickerman. A festival favourite, the inevitable chorus of ‘Hounds Of Love’ remains as gratifying as ever.
Joining the Sunderland band on the bill are Mod rockers Ocean Colour Scene. Sure, they might not be the most credible of groups but classic hits such as ‘Traveller’s Tune’ are prime festival fare.
Northern Irish punk favourites The Undertones are to play the Scottish event, alongside Caledonian talent such as Codeine Velvet Club and Sons & Daughters.
With the fancy dress theme being set as vampires and werewolves, this year’s Wickerman could be spookier than ever.
Wickerman takes place between July 23rd – 24th.
