The Courteeners have spoken about their plans to play a series of British shows this December.
Love them or loathe them, The Courteeners remain a dependable live act. Formed by a group of open mic performers, the band’s old fashioned approach to hard touring has earned them a devoted following.
Returning with their second album ‘Falcon’ earlier this year, the Manchester act have travelled the length and breadth of the country. A more mature work, the album was supported by a typically extensive bout of touring.
Set to finish 2010 with a series of massive shows, the band are planning to headline Manchester’s MEN Arena. Their biggest gig to date, tickets for the hometown show are on sale now.
Speaking to the NME, singer Liam Fray explained that he plays a Manchester show every year – getting progressively bigger each time. “I did a tiny acoustic gig in December in 2005 and each year it’s got bigger. We’re very fortunate that we’re in a position where we’ve made that connection with the fans that they come back each year.”
“Playing to your home crowd always makes your heart skip a beat,” he explained. “We’ve never really looked back at what we’ve done. Playing that big gig really last year we didn’t really think about it, we just got into it. We just thought we’ve got an album out next year so we’ll have to top it.”
After the December tour is finished, The Courteeners play to head back into the studio. Currently writing new material, singer Liam Fray expects the band to take some time away from the road.
“The whole tour is going to be good. It’s nice to bring ‘Falcon’ to a close,” he said. “We’ve been all around the world and we’ve done the festival. After this people won’t see us for a while, we’re going to go and do the next record, which will be different again. So they’re going to be some shows to remember.”
