The annual celebration of indie music known as SWN has finalized its bill and is set to kick off on November 13th.
Curated by Radio 1’s prominent expert on everything Welsh and musical Huw Stephens, this year’s SWN festival boasts some stunning performances. 50s styled nu wop group The Pipettes will play only their second ever Welsh show, but the real coup is a performance by Young Marble Giants.
Formed in late 70s Cardiff, Young Marble Giants released only one album before they split. Just as well it was the seminal ‘Colossal Youth’ album, then. The band have reformed are are set to play their first hometown show in 30 years.
Elsewhere, up and coming London act Golden Silvers will play alongside Welsh language hip hop group Genod Droog in a bill that pretty much defines the word ‘eclectic’.
One of the best showcases of new British talent available, SWN has a worthy commitment to new bands – each year we’ve gone in an attempt to see someone we like, missed them and discovered about six bands we’d never heard of before.
Taking place in a number of venues across Cardiff, SWN also has numerous workshops and forums to help emerging musicians.
SWN takes place in venues across Cardiff between November 14th – 16th. The SWN launch party is on November 13th.
