Welsh rock heroes Stereophonics are set to return to the scene of one of their biggest shows, after confirming a date at Cardiff Castle.
Stereophonics emerged as the flames of Britpop were dying down, blending an Americanised rock sound with tales of small town Welsh life. Debut album ‘Word Gets Around’ was a cult favourite, spawning the group’s first Top 40 single.
Follow up ‘Performance And Cocktails’ established the band as a nationwide phenomenon. Selling by the bucketload Stereophonics toasted their success with a sell out show at Cardiff Castle.
Since then, Stereophonics have enjoyed their ups and downs. Drummer Stuart Cable departed, and is now set to reveal all in his new memoirs. Promising to reveal the truth behind the band, it could well be one of the year’s most scabrous reads.
But the Welsh group have prevailed. Kelly Jones’ songwriting ability meant that they weren’t on the sidelines for long, with the single ‘Dakota’ re-launching them as a chart force. Now preparing to release their latest album, Stereophonics have decided to return to one of the first major points in their career.
Stereophonics are set to play Cardiff Castle on October 3rd. The castle hasn’t held a rock show in eight years, but the band are set to re-create their 1998 show. Prices will be frozen at 1998 levels, with tickets costing only £12.50.
Tickets will go on sale via the group’s official website on Wednesday (September 9th).
