Squeeze Kick Off Glastonbury Pyramid Stage

With a crowd-pleasing set...

London legends Squeeze kicked off Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage a few moments ago.

The gates of Worthy Farm swung open on Wednesday, with limited programming kicking into gear on Thursday. Friday – June 28th – represents the first full day of music across all stages, with the main arenas now swinging into action.

Squeeze were picked to open the Pyramid Stage, drawing a big crowd to the iconic arena. The band revelled in the atmosphere, kicking off with golden hit ‘Take Me I’m Yours’ before ‘Hourglass’ and a crowd-pleasing ‘Pulling Mussels (From The Shell)’.

“This is what Glastonbury’s all about… smiling faces!” beamed the pub rock legends.

The hits continued with ‘Up The Junction’, the Pyramid Stage crowd joining in on those instantly-recognisable lyrics. ‘One Beautiful Summer’ seemed to tap into the Glastonbury ethos, while ‘Slap & Tickle’ drew some bluesy guitar licks from the band.

“We’re celebrating 50 years… 50 years” they exclaimed before a dynamic take on ‘Cool For Cats’ sparked party scenes amongst the crowd.

Squeeze co-founder Glenn Tilbrook commented before the set:

“I was at the 1971 Glastonbury Fayre and it was a life changing experience for me. I didn’t return until 1994, and, of course, the festival had grown but it carried the same spirit that I remembered. I have been a regular at the festival ever since which may explain why I am so pleased and proud that Squeeze will be opening the Pyramid Stage this year!”

CLASH will be on-site across the weekend – check the site and socials for the latest updates.
