Springsteen Covers The Clash

The Boss storms Hard Rock Calling

Iconic American songwriter Bruce Springsteen covered The Clash during his storming set at Hard Rock Calling.

After having spent the best part of thirty years ignoring them, Bruce Springsteen has begun a love affair with British festivals in some style. Performing a sensational three hour set at Glastonbury, The Boss followed this – his first ever British festival show – with another marathon show at Hard Rock Calling.

Held in London’s Hyde Park, Springsteen took to the stage last night (June 28th) just under 24 hours after his Glastonbury set. Seriously, where does he get the energy?

The New Jersey singer took the stage with gusto, running through a sensational version of The Clash hit ‘London Calling’. The Boss was watched from the side of the stage by the punk icons’ guitarist Mick Jones.

Springsteen is famed for his love of lengthy set, with Hard Rock Calling proving to be no exception. Playing for three hours, the singer ran through a number of recent career highlights including a number of songs from his recent album ‘Working On A Dream’.

Written and recorded while on the campaign trail with Barack Obama, the album has been acclaimed as a rejuvenated set. Sure, it contains plenty of his usual bluster but with ‘Working On A Dream’ Springsteen has re-discovered a populist streak, tapping into a new atmosphere in the United States.

Organisers had built a specially constructed walkway to allow bands to interact with fans, and Springsteen took to this with glee. Charging down the walkway, the singer met onlookers and took requests.

For the track ‘No Surrender’ Bruce Springsteen invited Brian Fallon from The Gaslight Anthem to the stage. Fallon sang backing vocals with The Boss, just as he had done at Glastonbury the night before.

The Boss ended the set with a number of his greatest hits. Beginning with ‘Born To Run’ Springsteen ran through the likes of ‘Glory Days’ before ending with Dancing In The Dark’ – which famously boasted an early appearance by Courtney Cox in the video.

Bruce Springsteen is now set to play a number of massive stadium dates around the UK. Click HERE for more details!
