Spoon To Host Own Festival

Trail Of Dead and more for bill

Texas indie rock institution Spoon are set to host their own festival, with a bill boasting appearances from …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead and much more.

Spoon were founded in the early 90s, when being in an alternative rock act meant wearing a plaid shirt and using antique fuzz pedals. The Texan group went against this by produing an extremely avant garde sound, deeply indebted to bands such as Can.

Since their inception Spoon have gathered a cult following, eventually signing to Elektra in 1997, before leaving for their current home of Merge Records. The band are part of a new vanguard of American acts whose intelligent experiments with rock and roll have resulted in some spectacular new sounds.

Recent album ‘Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga’ was released in 2007 and flew into the Billboard charts at number ten. Since then Spoon have holed themselves away to work on new material, which will be previewed at the upcoming event.

Held in Austin, Texas the mini-festival will run for three nights at Stubb’s Amphitheatre. The band are set to debut new material, as well as playing old classics. From yesterday (April 23rd) three day passes have been made available from Spoon’s official website.

One of the most highly regarded bands in American rock music, Spoon will be joined by a variety of guest stars including the twin-drumming sonic assault of …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, Mormon slow-fi merchants Low and many more.

SpoonX3 takes place between July 9th – 11th. Full line up is as follows:

Spoon, …And You Will Know Us By the Trail of the Dead, Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears (July 9th)
Spoon, Low, Dale Watson (July 10th)
Spoon, Atlas Sound, the Strange Boys (July 11th)
