Mercury nominee Speech Debelle is set to showcase her talents with a free in-store gig in London.
Speech Debelle likes to do things the hard way. A self-proclaimed “spoilt brat” the rapper recently told Clash Magazine that she grew up in a comfortable, middle class home. However the young musician didn’t do well in school, and after falling out with her mother departed for a series of bed sits.
Sliding into poverty Speech Debelle began crafting rhymes to explain her situation. Teaming up with a number of producers the rapper began making a name for herself on the always competitive UK hip hop scene.
Snapped up by Ninja Tunes, Speech Debelle’s debut album ‘Speech Therapy’ marks the arrival of a distinctive new voice. Containing guest appearances from the likes of Roots Manuva the album was a shock nomination for the Mercury Music Prize.
Relishing her newly raised profile, Speech Debelle is set to showcase her talents with a new instore show in London. Held in the Fenchurch store at 36 Earlham Street entry will be strictly limited.
Fenchurch, of course, are preparing to launch their new streetwear range. One of Britain’s fastest growing brands the clothing firm take their inspiration from the nation’s streets – even their logo was inspired by Fenchurch Street Station.
To make the show even more enticing, Fenchurch have offered 20% all purchases on the day of the gig. Tasty!
