World renowned music showcase event South By Southwest is set to return in 2010, with organisers revealing the first details of the festival.
As far as musical cities go, Austin, Texas is up their with the best of them. One of the city’s main claims to fame is the sheer diversity of its music scene, with huge numbers of country, blues, rock and rap acts all emerging from Austin.
South By Southwest takes over the bars and music venues of the city in one of the biggest music events on the planet. Industry from all over the world jet into Austin in order to find the next big thing, with bands clambering over one another for their shot at the big time.
Clash are a permanent fixture at the festival, running a stunning event earlier this year that included Gallows tearing a juggernaut sized hole in the Texas city.
In the past, Clash events in SXSW have featured an array of star names. You can watch stunning interviews from the event with the likes of Juliette Lewis, Slow Club and Dananananaykroyd by clicking HERE!
With memories still fresh from the carnage of this year’s event, organisers have announced the dates for the 2010 instalment. South By Southwest will return next year, taking place between March 17th – 21st.
Although artists for next year’s event have not been announced yet, they will no doubt include some of the biggest groups on the planet. Amongst the star names who travelled to Austin this year were Metallica, PJ Harvey and Scottish gloom rockers Glasvegas.
In addition to its myriad of musical performances, SXSW also acts as a great meeting place for the music industry. With labels still reacting to the web explosion and more musicians going down the DIY approach, debate has been raging in the music industry with many predicting the death knell for its current economic model.
If chatting about the nitty gritty of record sales is your kind of thing then organisers have announced that they are accepting submissions for panels ideas through a ‘Panel Picker interface’.
The new plans will allow a SXSW web community to submit panel topics and vote on others ideas. The open submission process began yesterday (June 1st) and runs until June 10th. After topics have been collated fans can vote on the subjects that grab their attention between August 10th – 28th.
South By Southwest returns next year from March 17th – 21st.
