Hootin’ and hollerin’ will be the order of the day when American blues duo She Keeps Bees tour the UK.
Blues duos are ten a-penny these days. Once The White Stripes broke through it seemed that everyone with a guitar and a bass drum were forming primal blues pairings, with a queue of bass players stretching round the corner of the DHSS.
However for every Black Keys there are ten identikit duos, blurting out blues sludge. Hailing from Brooklyn, She Keeps Bees are set to invert this formula by re-introducing some spectral magic to the blues.
A two piece, She Keeps Bees part ways with The White Stripes by putting the bloke on drums. Lead singer Jessica Larrabee’s spell-binding voice recalls Cat Power yet with her own definitive emotional appeal.
Becoming the talking point of the Brooklyn music scene, She Keeps Bees’ live show has already become the source of music myth. Snapped up by Names Records the band’s EP ‘Revival’ was released over the summer.
Stunning critics, She Keeps Bees finished their one-two with the release of their debut album ‘Nests’ back in August. A compelling series of songs, the album hinted at the mysteries of the deep South but has a determinedly modern outlook.
