Lounge On The Farm has grabbed one of Britain’s most distinctive musical voices with Roots Manuva set to headline the event.
Real name Rodney Smith, Roots Manuva combines hip hop and dancehall influences to craft something that is unique British. The son of first generation immigrants, his religious background imbues his music with a sincere spirituality.
After years working the sound systems of London, Roots Manuva finally signed with Big Dada in the late 90s. Debut album ‘Brand New Second Hand’ was an uncompromising look at his childhood, but beneath the sharp social commentary there was a biting wit.
Follow up album ‘Run Come Save Me’ was a land mark in British hip hop. Featuring stunning production and Manuva’s finest rapping to date, the album scooped a Mercury nomination and even broke into the Top 40.
Roots Manuva returned last year with his new album ‘Slime & Reason’. Always one to catch rising talent, production on the album was shared between London electro group Metronomy and Sheffield dancehall maverick Toddla T.
Possibly his most eclectic effort to date, the album was a sizzling return from the soundsystem warrior. A stunning live performer, Roots Manuva will be bringing some seriously good vibes to this year’s Lounge On The Farm.
“We always wanted an artist who’s got a good back catalogue behind them, and someone who’ll create a cracking Saturday night carnival vibe,” says organizer Matt Gough. “And Roots Manuva not only has some incredible albums under his belt but also a wicked live show. Here’s to some Saturday night skanking!”
Held on Merton Farm, Lounge Of The Farm has a laid back, small town atmosphere. However the event has big ambitions and has booked the likes of The Horrors, Edwyn Collins, Mr Scruff and more.
Further down the bill lurk new talents such as Casiokids, Flamboyant Bella, Zomby, Wave Pictures and The Invisible amongst others.
Other new additions to the bill include acoustic star David Viner, Tom Middleton and seminal Balearic band The Woodentops.
Lounge On The Farm takes place between July 10th – 12th.
