New York group The Roots are set to make a rare live appearance at this summer’s Rock The Bells tour.
Rock The Bells takes hip hop out of the clubs and into an arena near you. One of the biggest live events in North America it gathers some of the biggest names in rap on one handy bill. Taking in ten cities across America, this year’s Rock The Bells will include some extra special additions.
The Roots rarely perform live, having become the in house band at a popular American chat show. However the group are due to play on Rock The Bells, taking their astonishing instrumental dexterity with them.
Joining the live hip hop gurus are Outkast member Big Boi. Often overshadowed by the outlandish fashion sense of Andre 3000, Big Boi is due to work on the new Outkast record later this year. His solo efforts are not to be sniffed at either, and his addition is a major coup for organisers.
The event is set to be hosted by a variety of hip hop greats including KRS-One, MC Supernatural, Murs and Pete Rock.
As if that wasn’t enough, legendary Boston group House Of Pain are set to re-unite. The Irish-American outfit set the charts alight in the early 90s, with frontman Everlast released an acclaimed solo album last year.
House Of Pain’s original line up will reform for these dates, which will no doubt be one of the biggest celebrations of the tour.
Rock The Bells begins on June 27th.
