US rock legends REM closed T In The Park last night (July 13th) with a hit packed set that contained a political bent as the band trawled through their extensive back catalogue.
Led by iconic frontman Michael Stipe the band were in furious form in their first visit to the festival in five years. Opening with “Living Well Is The Best Revenge” the band played many of their more political songs including “Drive” with its reference to being “bush-whacked”.
Much of the band’s output is in some way tied with political and ecological concerns, most notably on their fourth album “Life’s Rich Pageant”. Many tracks from that album have begun re-appearing in the group’s set, with both “Begin The Begin” and “These Days” being played at T In The Park.
The set contained a few moments of great REM magic, with mass singalongs for “Losing my Religion” and finale “Man On The Moon”.
