Japanese sound system Mighty Crown, label VP Records, promoters Irish and Chin and radio station Irie Jam have announced a New York benefit concert, ‘Reggae 4 Japan’, for the victims of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami.
The lineup is still to be announced but promises to feature several of the top acts from VP’s roster of top reggae and dancehall acts. It’ll take place on Thursday April 21 at the 1300 seater York College Theatre in Queens, New York.
Mighty Crown, who were in Japan at the time of the Earthquake, are Japan’s biggest dancehall sound system. Dancehall is huge in Japan and early reports suggests response from the international reggae and dancehall community has been immediate willingness to perform.
This year also sees Mighty Crown’s twentieth year in the business. They and their managers Irish and Chin are devoting a proportion of proceeds from their anniversary billed events to support efforts in Japan.
Proceeds will go to the American Red Cross Japan Earthquake Relief.
