The organisers of Reading Festival have taken new measures to ensure that the site is not flooded.
With over 80,000 fans set to descend on Reading Festival, organisers are taking no chances. The main camp site is situated next to the river Thames, which means that some areas are prone to flooding.
Recent measures have reduced the risk, but with heavy rain falling the site over the past few days organisers have moved to introduce flood measures.
Workers are on site right now, with the Environmental Agency removing gallons of water from Reading festival. “The cooperation and positive response of the Environment Agency has ensured that the thousands of festival fans will continue to have a fantastic weekend here at Reading,” Melvin Benn, managing director of Festival Republic said in a statement.
“I am extremely grateful to them. We have obviously experienced heavy rainfall over the past couple of days but the rest of the weekend is looking good – here’s to another great Reading Weekend.”
Heavy rain over the past few days has left parts of the site water logged. However weather reports do look optimistic, with Metcheck claiming that rain across the actual festival period should be light.
Temperatures will remain fairly warm, although Leeds is set to enjoy the most sunshine. The Northern leg will bask in 20 Degrees Celsius temperatures, with very little rain set to fall on the site.
The latest reports from the Reading site indicate that fans should bring their wellies. While rain throughout the weekend should be minimal, underlying water will mean that the ground could be heavy going.
Meanwhile, fans are now arriving for Reading and Leeds. Spread across two legs, the enormous music festival is set to feature appearances from the likes of Guns N Roses, The Libertines, Arcade Fire and more.
