Returning indie-punk kings The Rakes are set to tour the nation after releasing their new album ‘Klang’.
The Rakes formed in 2004 and were part of the indie wave that swept through the charts in the same year. The Futureheads, Maximo Park and Bloc Party all released their debut albums within a few months of each other and sales of skinny jeans went through the roof.
The band’s early sound dealt with the mundane nature of everyday life, with debut album ‘Cpature / Release’ spawning the singles ’22 Grand Job’ and ‘Work, Work, Work (Pub, Club, Sleep)’.
Since then, however, The Rakes have gradually evolved into a more mature songwriting machine. Retaining the spiky indie thrills that made them irresistible in the first place, recent album ‘Klang’ was recorded in Germany and is perhaps their most ambitious to date.
Singer Alan Donohoe states: “The album is raw, playful, exciting, complex and schizophrenic – much like the personality of Berlin itself. It couldn’t be more of a fitting place to record it.”
Renowned for their distinctive fashion sense, The Rakes became poster boys for celebrated designer Hedi Slimane working on a number of his collections.
‘Klang’ was released earlier this year, and was supported by the free download single ‘1989’. Recorded in Berlin, the album was produced by celebrated sonic engineer Chris Zane who is also responsible for Passion Pit’s much hyped debut.
The Rakes are set to release their new single ‘That’s The Reason’ on June 1st. The band have confirmed the following tour dates:
October
26 Leeds Cockpit
27 Bristol Thekla
28 Birmingham Academy 2
29 London Forum
