Public Enemy For Bonnaroo

American festival expands

One of the biggest music events in the United States just got bigger with Bonnaroo adding hip hop giants Public Enemy to their line up.

Set in Tennessee the Bonnaroo Music And Arts Festival has grown to become one of the biggest and most important music events in America. Famously, Bonnaroo is fond of booking so called ‘Jam Bands’ – a peculiarly American genre whereby groups play endless jams in the style of a long forgotten Grateful Dead bootleg.

However this year the festival has a line up packed with groups whose set will doubtless clock in at under two hours. Public Enemy are one of the most influential hip hop groups of all time, still releasing incendiary material they remain true greats in American music.

Also added to the bill are Ani Di Franco, African duo Amadou and Mariam, White Rabbits and more.

They join this year’s headliners which include Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. The Boss doesn’t tend to play festivals, and this will be one of very few North American events he plays this summer. Of course, British fans can content themselves with a no doubt spectacular Glastonbury slot in addition to an appearance at Hard Rock calling.

Also on the bill are rap brats The Beastie Boys, currently celebrating the 20th anniversary of their seminal album ‘Paul’s Boutique’. Nine Inch Nails are set to perform one of their last sets before going on hiatus, while MGMT and alt country greats Wilco are also set to perform.

Bonnaroo takes place in Manchester, Tennessee between June 11th – 14th.
