Primal Scream have unveiled details of a lavish 20th anniversary edition of ‘Screamadelica’.
Released in 1991, ‘Screamadelica’ perhaps documents the euphoric pick ‘n’ mix atmosphere of the post-rave era. Mixing country, techno, blues, house, dub and more it remains an inspiring, expansive work.
Now to mark its 20th anniversary Primal Scream are set to release a new special edition version of the album. Joining forces with Kevin Shields, the band have produced a re-mastered edition themselves.
Given a new lease of life, the band have worked with the original master tapes. Alongside this, Primal Scream have unearthed the previously unreleased live cut ‘Live In LA 1992’ featuring a typically sprawling set.
The four CD re-issue will also group together some of the remixes from the period. Exploding definitions of a rock group, Primal Scream handed their material over to producers such as Andrew Weatherall, The Orb and more.
Now long out of print, the remix collection brings together some of the finest versions of the material which became ‘Screamadelica’. Finally, the band have included a re-mastered version of ‘The Dixie Narco EP’ which represents the bridging point between Primal Scream’s dance period and the Stones stance of ‘Give Out But Don’t Give In’.
There is also set to be a 30 minute documentary, containing interviews with the band themselves alongside archive footage. Containing track by track insights the package is completed by a 50 page bound book which features notes on the Story Of Screamadelica by ‘Loaded’ magazine founder James Brown.
Available on CD and as a gatefold LP, Primal Scream will also release a collector’s edition including a 12” slipmat featuring the original iconic sleeve design by the late artist Paul Cannell, a Primal Scream replica tour t-shirt (by Worn By) and 5 x 7” art cards.
Primal Scream are to release the expanded ‘Screamadelica’ on March 7th.
