Preview: Mad Cool Festival 2024

"Mad Cool is Madrid and Madrid is Mad Cool..."

Since it’s inception in 2016, Mad Cool has consistently curated a line-up bringing festival goers the biggest chart-toppers alongside the newest music talents. Held annually in Madrid, Spain, Mad Cool returns this summer from July 10th-13th, and there are many acts to cram into the four-day extravaganza.

Fresh from her headline slot at Glastonbury fest, Dua Lipa takes to the main stage at Mad Cool on Wednesday. Her new album ‘Radical Optimism’ could not be more suited to the Spanish sunshine. On the same day, Janelle Monáe brings forth her reggae-soaked ‘Age of Pleasure’ to the stage, and The Smashing Pumpkins offer up the rock alternative.

On Thursday, Pearl Jam headline, whilst new-gen junglist Nia Archives and electronic producer Bonobo bring forth the after-hours rhythms.

On Friday, an act who is not afraid to speak their mind (and never has been!) is Tom Morello. For Disco Dionysia there’s no better than Jessie Ware, whilst Canadian band Alvvays bring their blithe brand of indie-pop to the Spanish capital.

Meanwhile, on the Saturday night, Las Vegas’ very own rockers The Killers will be bringing their iconic hits to Mad Cool, from ‘Mr Brightside’ to other tracks spanning their twenty-year career. For something more caustic, we have relative newcomers Irish hip-hop trio Kneecap, who’ve set the film festival circuit alive, and made headlines recently for their consistent show of solidarity to the Palestinian cause.

Who can resist an early 2000s-coded sing-along? If this sounds up your street, Avril Lavigne will have you covered. Meanwhile, also on Saturday, Lord Huron will be performing their unique flavour of indie folk songs.

Tickets to Mad Cool are available here, where you can opt for a 4-day or VIP ticket package, or indeed, the one-dayer.
