Dependable Australian rockers Powderfinger are to split following an upcoming British tour.
Formed in 1989, success came slow to Powderfinger. Building up a cult following with their strong live show, the band’s third album ‘Internationalist’ was released in 1998 and became a commercial success.
Since then, Powderfinger have been on the up, touring the world to widespread acclaim. Last year the band performed at Hyde Park’s Hard Rock Calling, one of the band’s largest British shows to date.
Releasing their new album ‘Golden Rule’ last year, Powderfinger confirmed a series of British tour dates for this summer. However in a new press conference the Australian group confirmed that it would be their final tour.
Reading out a statement, Bernard Fanning called time on the band’s career. “We have decided, after much deliberation and agonising, that after this final tour we will call it a day as a recording and touring band.”
“With the completion of our last album, ‘Golden Rule’, we feel that we have said all that we want to say as a musical group. We firmly believe that it is our most complete and satisfying album and can’t think of a better way to farewell our fans than with music that we all believe in and also with, hopefully, our best tour to date”.
Opening on April 21st in London’s Brixton Academy Powderfinger are set to play a series dates across the country. Finishing with a final show in Glasgow’s ABC venue the Australian group will be aiming to end their career in style.
