Seminal American group Pixies have confirmed details of their first Scottish date in four years.
If there’s an award for the most over used word in the Oxford English Dictionary, then it should undoubtedly go to ‘seminal’. Once the preserve of important artists now just about every artist over forty gets lumped in with the catch all label.
However Pixies are truly a seminal group. Famously formed as an attempt to blend Peter, Paul and Mary with Husker Du the band’s quiet-LOUD atmospherics lit a fuse that exploded with the enormous success of Nirvana.
A spectacular group in their own right, Pixies’ back catalogue is set to be given the lavish treatment it deserves with the release of the ‘Minotaur’ box set later this year. Containing all five of the group’s studio albums, the box set also contains new artwork and a previously unreleased live set from 1991.
If listening to all that gets you in the mood for some live action, then fear not. Pixies have unveiled details of their first Scottish show in four years. Reforming after almost a decade in hibernation, the band played a triumphant open air show at the Meadowbank Stadium in Edinburgh back in 2005.
Sadly, the band have not returned to Scotland since then. Pixies are scheduled to perform at this summer’s Isle Of Wight festival, and have also confirmed details of a very special London show.
In addition to this, Pixies are now set for a very special return to Scotland. The band are set to play their album ‘Doolittle’ in its entirety, before following this with a ‘best of’ selection.
With rumours in the air that Pixies are due to begin work on a new studio album later this year, the band are clearly comfortable with their illustrious past. Dave McGeachan, promoter at DF Concerts says “I’m thrilled that Pixies will be returning to Scotland.”
“They’re one of the most important bands in modern rock music, inspiring a whole host of top acts like Nirvana, Radiohead and Pearl Jam, this is a great chance for fans to see them in the flesh. Doolittle is their masterpiece, and always features prominently in best-ever album lists, so the prospect seeing that played in full live is hugely exciting.”
