Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour has slammed Glastonbury organizers claiming that they denied his late band mate Rick Wright’s last wish to perform at the festival.
Attending an awards ceremony in London yesterday, David Gilmour spoke out on the death of his long time band mate Rick Wright. Wright played keyboard in Pink Floyd, and had a massive affect on the group’s overall sound and orchestration as well as writing some of their best known songs.
Speaking to the press after picking up an award, Gilmour said that “One of the last things he (Wright) wanted to do, in this last year, was to do a big outdoor festival, such as Glastonbury. We weren’t able to do that due to all sorts of strange reasons, which, again, is a sadness.”
Understandably the Glastonbury organized are upset – Clashmusic.com is sure that Pink Floyd would be more than welcome given the opportunity – and Emily Eavis responded to the statement by saying “hopefully he understands, or I think maybe he has been misinformed by someone that it was some sort of thing about them, but it wasn’t at all, it was just purely because we couldn’t fit them on anywhere.”
Rick Wright died of cancer last month.
