New York’s soulful indie collective The Phenomenal Handclap Band have confirmed details of a one off UK show.
Springing from New York’s always creative arts scene, The Phenomenal Handclap Band began with two out of sorts DJs having a brainwave. Instead of playing other people’s music, they reasoned, they could simply make their own.
Daniel Collás and Sean Marquand then switched off their Technics and formed The Phenomenal Handclap Band. A loose knit collective of artists, musicians and other creative types the group don’t seem to operate in the same way others do.
Refusing to be pigeonholed the band rampage through soft rock, Brazilian soul and even the odd slice of vintage psych. Having work with a wide range of other acts the band decided to strike out on their own with their debut album.
The Phenomenal Handclap Band released their self-titled debut earlier this year, to tremendous acclaim. ClashMusic caught up with the band recently to talk about this success, and the group revealed that they much prefer their live sound.
“When we go back and listen to the record, it sounds a lot more mellow than the way that we play it live. I think that’s just a product of the energy of us being together” guitarist Quinn Luke said.
Now fans will get another chance to experience the group in the flesh with The Phenomenal Handclap Band travelling to London for another show. Strictly one off, the band will bring their debut album to life complete with a host of rare tracks and new material.
